Overview

Golden Peak High School is a private English-medium school in Saraswatinagar, Chabahil, in Ward 6 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Nepal. The school states that it was established in 1991 (official about page — first-party). It was named a Full Award recipient in the British Council’s 2019–20 International School Award programme (British Council), and has appeared in Nepali media reporting on inter-school basketball, a cybersecurity education programme and post-earthquake relief work between 2014 and 2026.

The British Council’s International School Award (ISA) is an accreditation scheme for schools that build an international dimension into their curriculum and partnerships.

Golden Peak High School is listed as a Full Award recipient in the 2019–20 ISA cycle (Batch 1) on the British Council Nepal ISA programme page. The British Council’s ISA press release of 20 October 2020 records the school at entry 17 of 23 accredited schools, as “Golden Peak High School — Kathmandu — Full Award”. The release describes the ceremony as the eighth year of the programme in Nepal.

The award was reported independently by New Spotlight on 21 October 2020, which listed the school among the 23 Nepali recipients.

Leadership

Chhatra Mani Rai is identified as principal of Golden Peak High School both in the school’s own publications (school website — first-party) and in independent reporting: The Kathmandu Post referred to him as “Principal Chhatra Mani Rai” of the school in May 2015.

Sports

Golden Peak Inter-School Basketball Tournament (host)

The school hosts an annual inter-school basketball tournament that carries its name and is played on its premises.

• 6th edition, 2014 — Nepal Basketball reported the host school’s senior boys beating Opal 44–27 (Syrus Karki, 14 points) and its junior boys beating AIA 27–23 (Pravat Rai, 16 points) to reach the semifinals.
• 8th edition — Neplays reported the organising school’s senior boys reaching the final by beating Himalayan Happy Children Home 50–39 (Gopal Bhandari, 29 points), and its girls’ team reaching the final by beating Whiz Kids 22–11 (Dawa Sherpa, 15 points).

Results in a tournament the school itself organises are recorded here as part of its documented activity, not as independent recognition.

Other inter-school competitions

Kantipur has reported results for a school team it identifies as “Golden Peak” in Kathmandu Valley inter-school competitions:

• August 2025 — Junior Boys champions at the 19th Greenland Interscholastic Basketball Tournament (Kantipur, 30 August 2025).
• December 2025 — Junior Boys champions at the 19th Valley Public Cup Inter-School Basketball Tournament (Kantipur, 15 December 2025).
• June 2026 — reached the boys’ final after a 68–60 semifinal win over Newton in which Sushil Giri scored 26 points (Kantipur, 5 June 2026). Marvelous were reported as the boys’ champions of that competition (Kantipur, 7 June 2026).

Educational programmes

In July 2016, the technology publication ICT Frame reported that Cyber Security International Nepal (CSI Nepal) held the 19th edition of its awareness programme at the school in Saraswatinagar, Chabahil. The session was aimed at Grade 9 and 10 students and covered social media safety, ethical hacking and cybercrime.

Community activity

Following the April 2015 earthquake, The Kathmandu Post reported on a 12-person relief team that travelled to Rasuwa on 8 May 2015 carrying material sufficient for 166 households. The team “included the teachers of Golden Peak High School along with Principal Chhatra Mani Rai”, together with members of Ojaswi Nepal and two volunteers from Shangri-La Orphanage Home. The report describes the team reaching Yarsa VDC, where only 25 sacks of rice, 20 tarpaulins and some beaten rice had arrived, and distributing tarpaulins, blankets, salt and cooking oil to around 250 people in Arukharka, including a Dalit settlement of ten households.
