Editorial policy

Independence

FactsLedger is independent of the entities it documents. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any subject profiled on this site. We do not accept payment, gifts or other consideration in exchange for creating, altering, favourably framing, delaying or removing a profile, and we do not sell links.

Where a relationship exists between the site and a subject that a reader might reasonably want to know about, it is disclosed on the profile itself.

Neutrality

Profiles describe what the record documents. They do not rank, rate or recommend. Promotional language — "best", "top", "leading", "prestigious", "renowned" — is not used, including in a subject's own words unless it is presented as a direct, attributed quotation.

Verification

Every claim in a profile is traceable to a cited source that has been read. See the methodology and source policy for how that works in practice.

Living people

Profiles of living people are limited to their documented public activity — their work, roles, published output and public statements. We do not publish private contact details, home addresses, family information about non-public individuals, health information, or allegations that are not documented in a tier 1 source. Material about a living person that is contested and thinly sourced is removed while it is reviewed, not left up pending a decision.

Right of reply

Any subject of a profile may contact us about its content. Where a subject disputes a claim, we re-examine the underlying source. Where the subject supplies information about itself, it may be added as an attributed first-party statement; it does not displace independent reporting on the same point.

Removal requests

We consider requests to remove a profile on their merits, weighing the public interest in a documented record against the individual circumstances raised. Factual inaccuracy is corrected. Discomfort with an accurate, well-sourced fact about a public entity is not by itself a reason for removal, but requests involving private individuals, safety concerns or legal obligations are taken seriously and answered.

Use of research tools

We use software, including AI tools, to help find and organise sources. No claim reaches publication on the strength of an AI-generated summary. Sources proposed by any tool are treated as leads until the underlying document has been read by a person, because such tools do produce citations to documents that do not contain the claim — we have caught this in our own drafts, and the check exists because of it.
