This policy explains what data this site collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

What we collect

When you just read the site

This is a static site. It sets no tracking cookies and embeds no advertising or social media trackers. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information inherent to serving a web page — your IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time — for delivery, security and abuse prevention. This is our legitimate interest in operating a functioning, non-abused website. We do not use it to build a profile of you.

When you contact us

If you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you send: your name (if you give one), your email address, and the content of your message. We use it only to respond, and to keep a record of correction requests so that we can show why a profile changed. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries and maintaining an accountable editorial record.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or rent personal data.
• We do not run advertising or share data with ad networks.
• We do not use analytics that profile individual visitors across sites.
• We do not send marketing email. If you write to us, you get a reply, not a newsletter.

Processors we rely on

• Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery and security for this site.
• Our email provider — receiving and storing correspondence sent to our published addresses.

These providers process data on our instructions and under their own security obligations.

How long we keep things

• General correspondence: normally up to 24 months, then deleted.
• Correction requests and the reasoning behind a resulting change: retained for as long as the profile is published, because a correction record that disappears is not a correction record.
• Server and security logs: retained by Cloudflare according to its own retention periods.

Personal data inside profiles

Some profiles are about people. That information is not collected from you — it is compiled from published, publicly available sources, and each claim is cited. We publish it in the public interest in maintaining an accurate, sourced record of documented public activity, and we limit profiles of living people to that public activity. If you are the subject of a profile, you can ask us to correct inaccurate information, object to its publication, or request removal. Write to contact@factsledger.com and tell us which profile and which statements are at issue. We will respond, explain what a claim rests on, and correct or remove anything we cannot support.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict our processing, and to receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email contact@factsledger.com. We aim to respond within 30 days and will not charge you for a reasonable request.

If you are in the UK, EU or another jurisdiction with a data protection authority, you also have the right to complain to it. We would rather you came to us first, but that right does not depend on doing so.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Note that profiles of institutions such as schools describe the institution, not individual pupils.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated date above changes with it and the current version always appears on this page.
